I immediately plan for the next one, so my advice is not to be disheartened and discouraged as you should be aware that owing to the small amount of success rate that we are anticipating with IUI and knowing the fact that you are going to go ahead with at least two to three cycles to make it work. One cycle is hit and miss so if you are going for one cycle, please don’t go for it because this is not for you. This is because you are taking high chances with high expectations an this is the worst thing you can do for yourself because if the outcome is failure you may feel really bad or low and so my advice to you is to take it as it comes because usually it is slightly better than the natural sexual intercourse at home. However it is not in the category of higher success rates like IVF for example because the main difference is that we are trying to get the gametes very close together, the sperm and the eggs. We are not creating embryo’s. The fact that IVF is much more successful than IUI is because we create embryo’s. Once the embryo is created it means it is ready for implantation. But here there is still the burden of finding the right sperm to fertilise this egg at the right time and there are a lot of factors with this. I would be more realistic and then go ahead again within a month or two so do not leave a gap of six months, for example, to attempt the second cycle, this is very bad because you get your ratio back to square one. We need to at least get an accumulative success rate to happen, so if you complete cycles 1,2 and 3 within three months, this is the best scenario. If you complete cycles 1,3 or 5 that is also good but I would not leave it with large gaps.
