The night of the egg retrieval, basically, nothing because you don’t have to do any medication. The only thing is that you have to do a fast of six to eight hours depending on the recommendation. I usually recommend a six hour fast – they cannot eat or drink anything six hour prior to the retrieval so, basically that’s the most important. The rest is all done.
Nothing .You can’t do anything. What you can do is not worry about problems that haven’t happened. The anxiety levels in couples going through IVF increases when they take the trigger injection when they know they are going to have a surgical procedure done 36 hours later. You can’t do anything. Stress is not needed. You’re not going to be able to do anything about it so why worry about it? Why think about something that has not happened yet? All I suggest is to be relaxed, make sure you go for a nice meal out, now that everything has opened up. Of course try and restrict all the alcohol and smoking. All the lifestyle changes as we talked already. Make the environment as less stressful as possible. Don’t talk about IVF. Don’t talk about things that are yet to happen. Don’t talk about will this work or won’t it work. Don’t get into a negative frame of mind, try and keep your mind off the procedure that’s the best thing you can do. I know it’s easier said than done but there is nothing that you do that will change the modality of the outcome. If anything the patient being stressed or stressed is just going to potentially affect things in her own well-being. So take it easy.
