There is no difference in the genetic mistakes. It’s also not logical, because these genetic mistakes are occurring over 20, 30, 40 years of the egg’s lifetime — and anaesthesia takes 5 to 10 minutes. Therefore, it really cannot affect chromosomes inside the egg.
It’s a very good question and again the jury is out on this. Many years ago I had read papers that had suggested that not necessarily the general anesthetic but the amount of time the anesthetic is running in the bloodstream of the patient has an impact on egg quality and this study was done in the mouse model that the longer the mouse was kept sedated using an anesthetic agent the higher, we call it in embryology, premature activation of the eggs. The eggs were seen to prematurely activate leading to a negative outcome. So there is some school of thought that believes that try and minimize the exposure and the dose of anesthetic. Because the longer the patient is sedated and the higher the exposure to the anesthetic potentially if we are to extrapolate the animal studies that may activate the eggs prematurely. But in the human model I don’t believe we have much evidence to suggest that.
