If there is no genetic aberration, for example, microdeletion of the Y chromosome (YCM), or if there is no history of testicular cancer, trauma, undescended testes, cryptorchidism, congenital bilateral absence of vas deferens – these are genetic and/or physical abnormalities in the testes. In these cases, acupuncture cannot help the sperm.
But many men have low volume, low motility or low morphology sperm and these are due to idiopathic reasons, in other words, unknown causes. Some men also have some sperm DNA fragmentation. When you have it, and above 30%, there are very few pregnancies that occur. Acupuncture in the absence of either genetic or physical abnormalities can improve and increase sperm count, morphology and motility and certainly reduce sperm DNA fragmentation to a healthier level.
