Endometritis is not endometriosis. Endometriosis is something entirely different. Most people now know what endometriosis is, but many do not know what endometritis is. The term “endometritis” comes from the Greek word for “inflammation.” Endometritis is an inflammation of the lining of the uterus, and it is associated with infertility.
While endometriosis involves tissue similar to the uterine lining growing outside the uterus, endometritis is confined to the inside, specifically the uterine lining itself. In contrast, endometriosis can cause pain and fertility issues because the misplaced tissue responds to hormonal changes, often leading to scarring, adhesions, and chronic inflammation.
Endometritis, on the other hand, may go unnoticed in many cases. The infection could be clinically evident, meaning that the woman may or may not realize she has it. Like any infected organ, the endometrium’s ability to function can be impaired.
