How common is endometritis?

How frequently does endometritis occur?

Endometritis is an underdiagnosed condition, and its prevalence is not well-established. Many cases go unnoticed because it often doesn’t present with obvious symptoms, making it difficult to determine how common it truly is.

Answer from the fertility expert:
Elias Tsakos, Medical Director, EmbryoClinic

We don’t know. This is simply because we rarely investigate it. I include myself in this group because diagnosing endometritis requires tests that we don’t routinely perform—either an endometrial biopsy or hysteroscopy, or both.

Even when we do an endometrial biopsy, we do not typically request specific testing for endometritis. Unless explicitly requested, the biopsy report may focus on conditions like polyps, fibroids (myomas), or malignancies rather than markers of endometritis.

In my opinion, it is more common than we think.
