The final confirmation is done by the doctor. We have a team of 3 coordinators: one for the donor, one for the recipient, and a third who helps with the process. Together, they find a good candidate, and the doctor gives the final confirmation.
In some countries, the regulation allows the patient to actually select their own donors and therefore they can go to a clinic or to an international bank like Cryos and make their selection and we will have a staff that can assist them with that. We know also that in some countries, for example Spain, the doctor needs to choose it because of the regulations and therefore, in those countries, it will be probably the coordinators with the help of the doctors taking a long list of the characteristics of the intended parents and then making the selection on behalf of the patient.
Who is in charge of selecting a donor for a patient? The answer depends on the country. In some countries, it is the patient or the couple who decide on the right donor for them and in some other countries, it is the medical team of the clinic who decides. For example, in Spain, by law, it is the medical team that is responsible for making the decision. Their decision s based on phenotypical aspects.
