Age is a number one factor that has an impact on egg quality and as a result it affects a woman’s ability to get pregnant both naturally or with IVF using her own eggs. Even in egg donation programs, it is an important factor because patients are usually older, so there’s a higher probability of some uterine problems. It means that implantation rates increase and abortion risk decreases.

So the number of the eggs depends on many factors, it depends on the simulations, depends on the age of the patient, the AMH; that is a very important thing. There isn’t an expected number that can make us say okay, this is a good one, but it depends on many factors.

This is almost an impossible question to answer accurately for two reasons. The first reason is that, at this point in time we do not have such a sensitive marker or a definitive method to directly evaluate the number of oocytes in the ovaries. The second reason is that oocyte depletion rate significantly ranges among individuals and it is associated with numerous factors, from the genetic background to the lifestyle parameters. So I would try to provide an answer to this question by generally explaining how the number of oocytes is reduced throughout the reproductive life. At puberty it is estimated that the number of oocytes is ranging from 300.000 to 400.000. This number is reduced to approximately 150.000 between 18–24 years of age and approximately to 60.000 between 25–31 years of age. The number remains relatively stable between 32–38 years of age, dropping noticeably to 9.600 between 40–44 years of age and 6.100 between 46–50 years of age. Over a woman’s reproductive lifespan, only around 300–400 oocytes will reach the ovulatory state. The rest undergo atresia. This is a hypothetical scenario referring to the general population. Despite the fact that the exact evaluation of the remaining oocytes at a specific age is not possible, we can predict with high accuracy the ovarian reserve status by evaluating anti-mullerian hormone levels as well as the antral follicle count.

Impossible to answer because it varies so much from woman to woman and there are a lot of variables in that, like how & where. Has she been on the pill? What kind of birth control she’s been using? Has she been pregnant? Has she been ovulating all of that time? How many children did she have already?Impossible to answer… hundreds of thousands.

What number of eggs would women around the age of 30 have? It all depends again going back to their lifestyle, to their weight, to whether their hormones are balanced and also the health of their ovaries and also whether there is any potential underlying fertility diseases or not.
For a healthy woman it can be checked by doing the assessment of the AMH hormone and the AFC or Antral Follicle Count which is done through doing a scan. The combination of these two can give some indication of the egg reservoir a woman would have a different age. We hope that around the age of 30 that the Antral Follicle Count would be more than 15 or 20. Once the they’re doing the ultrasound and also a good AMH of more than three or four but it’s very difficult to estimate this because everybody is different, every woman is different and we need to get a balance of life style, of the weight, of any family history and also plus the fact that their gynecological scan shows us that they have a healthy ovary.
