Answer from the fertility expert:
Kevin McEleny, Male fertility specialist, Urologist at Newcastle Fertility Centre

The age of females remains the most important predictive outcome really in terms when they get into their 30s and certainly the chance of success in getting pregnant naturally or through treatment declines when they reach 35 and again a bit faster when they reach 37. So, beyond 40, you generally need good prognostic markers to stand a good chance of conceiving without help. The miscarriage rate also increases if there’s a significant male fracture problem also at that point, for example, no sperm and the ejaculate due to production type problem – the chance of having a baby together might be fairly low and needs to be thought carefully through before proceeding to treatment.
